Meeting the needs of Offender Management
As the UK's leading provider of drug and alcohol treatment services, Phoenix Futures is tackling problematic substance misuse and helping to reduce reoffending through a range of intervention services.
With over 38 years experience of transforming lives Phoenix Futures has developed a diverse portfolio of drug treatment services across community, prison and residential settings which can effectively meet the criminogenic needs of offenders, protect the public, manage risk and reduce re-offending. We are the largest not for profit provider of prison-based drug treatment in the UK, and with our network of residential and community-based services, we have developed robust models to bridge the gap between custody and resettlement.
One of the most effective ways of enabling the transition from prison based drug treatment to resettlement in the community, is via residential rehabilitation. Abstinence based residential rehabilitation is the most evidence based method for drug users to become and remain drug free. Phoenix Futures runs several adult residential rehabilitation services throughout the UK, in Hampshire, Sheffield, the Wirral, Tyneside, and Glasgow. In addition we offer a women only service in Nottinghamshire, and two specialist family services in Brighton and Sheffield, which enable offenders to address their substance misuse issues whilst living with and caring for their children in a safe and secure environment.
The Therapeutic Community approach of our residential rehabilitation units provides a structured learning environment where positive behaviour is reinforced and residents learn to take responsibility for their behaviour. Through the course of the programme they take increasing responsibility for other people, gaining self worth and the experience of being a positive role model. While primarily focused on achieving abstinence from substance misuse, our rehabilitation and resettlement programmes aim to break the cycle of re-offending and enable full reintegration into society.
The programme thus supports and integrates with the offender's sentence plan. The offender can be admitted at any stage of a community sentence, or upon completion of a custodial sentence.
The Government's Reducing Re-offending Delivery plan established a number of pathways, which taken collectively, would reduce re-offending:
- Accommodation
- Employment, Training and Education
- Health
- Drugs and Alcohol
- Finance, Benefits and Debt
- Children and Families
- Attitudes, Thinking and Behaviour
The programme at Phoenix Futures provides interventions relating to all these pathways, delivered in a holistic manner to meet a range of individual needs while contributing to systemic improvements in reducing re-offending. We ensure that interventions are sequenced to complement sentence plans, aid compliance and meet national standards.
The programmes also provide opportunity to improve physical health, social functioning, develop employment, training and education skills and improve links to families and children. After completing the residential rehabilitation programme, offenders are able to progress to one of Phoenix Future's re-entry programmes and obtain accommodation and ongoing support to aid their re-integration into the community.
