Birmingham Community Engagement Outreach Service
What do we aim to achieve?
Our skilled staff members work with individuals who have a desire
to change their pattern of behaviour and drug use, addressing
lifestyle, health, social and criminal justice issues.
We will work with our service users to support them in improving
their physical and psychological health, as well as how they cope in
society. We aim to enable and empower individuals to reintegrate
back into their communities.
Who is our service for?
Men and women aged 18+ currently residing in Birmingham who
are concerned about their drug/alcohol use and are not already in
treatment.
How we run the service
Our service is a Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) funded
project and, via direct referral, we support individuals who are using
Class A substances and have been involved in the criminal justice
system within the last six months. We also support those using any
other substances (legal or illicit) regardless of criminal justice
involvement.
Our team covers the four areas of Birmingham - North, South, East
and Heart (HoB). Within each area we provide weekly satellite
services in various hostels, community centres and multi-agency
premises. We will then meet with people who 'drop-in' or who have
booked an appointment. The support offered will largely depend
upon the needs of the individual. We can also come to you if we
are not already working within that area.
What else does our service offer?
All individuals are different and therefore we offer a range of
services including:
- Informal discussion
- Harm reduction advice
- Brief interventions
- 1-2-1 support
- Group work
- Referral into prescribing services
- Referral into alternative support (such as Structured Day Programmes)
- Outreach needle exchange
- Auricular acupuncture
- Black box therapy
Are there any rules?
Individuals will need to be coherent during sessions. Violent,
aggressive or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. If
another drug/alcohol worker is involved in client care we can only
provide advocacy or additional support as agreed with their care
co-ordinator.
What are our opening hours?
Monday to Friday 9:15am - 4:45pm
How do I access the service?
We accept referrals from professionals and partners of individuals
with drug or alcohol problems, provided that the individual is fully
aware of this and agrees. A simple phone call is fine.
Self referrals can also be made by calling (or texting) any of the
numbers listed below - we will call back. We can then arrange a
convenient time and place to meet.
