New Year Honours 2010
New Year Honours is our annual awards ceremony for our staff and volunteers to celebrate their achievements, commitment and successes.
This year's winners were announced at a celebratory lunch at City Hall on 27th January. Congratulations to all our winners and finalists!
The Partnership
The person or team at Phoenix Futures that has developed an effective working partnership
Due to the high calibre of all the nominations, the Judging Panel decided to present this award to two winners.
Joint Winner: Conservation Therapy Programme and Natural England
"Natural England work in close partnership with Phoenix Futures to provide operational support and conservation sites across the length and breadth of England, giving our service users the opportunity to experience a wide range of conservation tasks and locations. Not only that there is a massive benefit to the service users but also we are contributing to the preservation and enhancement of our environment."
Joint Winner: Wirral Town Centre Outreach Service and the YMCA
"Working in partnership they have introduced night shelter accommodation to support homeless substance misusers … often an overlooked and very difficult group to work with.Through joint working they have successfully engaged and supported many difficult and hard to reach clients into service."
Finalists: Wirral Residential Service, Wirral Community Service and Wirral DAAT
The L&D Award
The person who has made the most of the learning and development opportunities available at Phoenix Futures to improve the quality of their work
Winner: Jane Lasseter
Jane is a Sessional Worker at our Spotlight Tier 2 Services in Hampshire.
"Jane uses her passion for knowledge and good practice to deliver the best possible service for the service user. She engaged in and paid for her own hypnotherapy to overcome her needle phobia in order to successfully complete the needle exchange training. Jane successfully completed her CCF in her own free time and within a three month timeframe"

The Volunteer
The volunteer who has made a real difference by dedicating their time and skills to help Phoenix Futures
Winner: Thomas Clark
Thomas (Tam) was a previously a service user at our South Lanarkshire Structured Day Service and has completed the programme and become a volunteer with Greenspace and Chatelherault Country Park.
"Tam attends Phoenix Futures graduations and speaks about his journey of recovery. As a volunteer with Greenspace Tam works alongside service users offering them his experience of using various tools in the many settings and areas within the park. Tam attended training as a assistant Forest School leader and has supported Greenspace staff deliver a forest school to school children during the summer. He was also part of a team who helped to create a community garden."
The Contributor
The person who has implemented a change for the better at Phoenix Futures
Winner: Philippe Bonnet
Philippe is an Outreach Worker with our Birmingham Community Engagement Outreach Service.
"Philippe is a highly valued member of his team with great experience in engaging with "hard to reach" groups ... not only does he excel in his role as an outreach worker, but he has offered his experience and knowledge to learning and development across the organisation."
Finalists: Eugene Chapman, Floating Support Worker for our Wirral Community Service; Karen Laverick, Service Manager for our Derby Tier 2 and Tier 3 Services.
The Ambassador
The person who has excelled in representing Phoenix Futures to our external stakeholders
Winner: Diane Hilton
Di is Head of Operations English Prisons for Phoenix Futures.
"The high regard that the prison service and national procurement holds Phoenix Futures in is in no small way down to the commitment, drive, knowledge and experience of Diane Hilton, which is none more evident than the culmination of new contracts from ADAPT being awarded to Phoenix Futures."
Finalists: Lyndsey Hague, Team Manager at our Wirral Residential Service and previously Treatment Manager for the Therapeutic Community at HMP Garth; Michelle Floyd, Service Manager for our Hampshire Community Services.
The Team
The team that has made a significant achievement by working together at Phoenix Futures
Due to the high number and quality of the nominations received, the Judging Panel decided to present two team awards.
Winner: Brighton Family Service
"Every single member of the team works as hard as they can, with a shared commitment and vision to dramatically improve the quality of the service that they are all so clearly proud of and passionate about ... the team say they are doing it for the service users because and the role they play in keeping families safe and together."
Winner: Glasgow Resettlement Service
"The team work well together, are ambassadors of service user involvement and have over the past year had some significant success. Transforming an empty tenement building to a fully operational resettlement service has required significant vision, risk taking, commitment and most of all exceptional team work."
Finalists: Barnsley Structured Day Service; Human Resources
