Barnsley Structured Day Service
Barnsley Structured Day Service is situated in a newly refurbished building in the town centre, easily accessible by foot and on most bus routes.
What do we aim to achieve?
Our skilled staff members work with individuals who have a desire to change their pattern of behaviour and drug use, addressing lifestyle, health, social and criminal justice issues.
We will work with our service users to support them in improving their physical and psychological health, as well as how they cope in society. We aim to enable and empower individuals to reintegrate back into their communities.
Who is our service for?
It is for men and women aged 18+ who are currently dependent on drugs or alcohol, or who have recently become abstinent and are living in, or wishing to settle in Barnsley.
How do we run the service?
We provide a varied therapeutic group work programme, which is divided into three stages – an introductory pre-group stage, the main structured day programme and an aftercare service dependant on individual needs.
We now also run an extended evening service which can be incorporated within the day programme or used as a stand alone service by people who are unable to access the day service.
How does the programme work?
The Pre-group stage (4-12 weeks) is designed to introduce service users to structured group work and support and motivate them to achieve maintenance or abstinence.
The Structured Day stage starts with a three week induction, followed by an intensive 12 week programme of individual and group work, peer support sessions and daily duties. It is designed to support service users in maintaining changes in lifestyle and drug use, both in the short and long term.
The programme includes aspects such as relapse prevention, harm minimisation, developing life skills, education/employment opportunities, sports and activities and our weekly conservation therapy programme.
Aftercare is available upon completion of the structured day programme to enable our service users to reintegrate back into the community with our full support.
We also offer specific "abstinence support groups" and a fortnightly "family and carers" evening.
Are there any rules?
To maintain a safe and positive environment for our service users, we will not tolerate any violence or threats of violence, harassment of any kind, and no illicit drug use once service users are accepted on to the structured day programme.
What are our opening hours?
9.30am - 9.00pm
How do I access the service?
Access is by referral, but this is a simple process. All you need to do is to talk to your care co-ordinator, key worker or drug worker and they can arrange this for you.Where is our service based?
