Barnsley Widening Horizons Service

Barnsley Widening Horizons Service is situated in a newly refurbished building in the town centre, easily accessible by foot and on most bus routes.

What do we aim to achieve?

Our skilled staff members work with individuals who have a desire to change their pattern of behaviour and drug use, addressing lifestyle, health, social and criminal justice issues.

We will work with our service users to support them in improving their physical and psychological health, as well as how they cope in society. We aim to enable and empower individuals to reintegrate back into their communities.

Who is our service for?

It is for men and women aged 18+ who are currently dependent on drugs or alcohol, or who have recently become abstinent and are living in, or wishing to settle in Barnsley.

How we work

We recognise that drug and alcohol misuse can affect anyone. We will respond to the diverse needs of our service users and try to overcome any barriers that make it difficult to use our service. If we cannot meet your needs we will do our best to find you alternative support.

What can our Widening Horizons Service offer?

We provide a varied therapeutic group work programme, divided into three stages - the Prep Stage, the Core Programme (which runs in the day or the evening to suit the individual) and Aftercare. These can all be accessed depending on individual needs. The programme includes:

  • Preparation for and aftercare from detoxification
  • One to one key working
  • Individual support planning
  • Therapeutic group work (including relapse prevention and harm minimisation)
  • Access to accredited education programmes
  • Access to our conservation therapy programme
  • Evening support groups
  • Abstinence support groups
  • Family and carers support
  • Advice on, and access to education training and employment

Are there any rules?

To maintain a safe and positive environment for our service users, we will not tolerate any violence or threats of violence, harassment of any kind, and no illicit drug use once service users are accepted onto the core programme.

What are our opening hours?

9.30am - 9.00pm

How do I access the service?

Access is by referral, but this is a simple process. All you need to do is to talk to your care co-ordinator, key worker or drug worker and they can arrange this for you.

If you do not have a worker then call our single point of contact engagement team on the number overleaf and they will provide the help you need.
