Floating Support Service

Who is the service for?

Problematic substance users aged 18+ who are resident in Sheffield and need support to maintain or to secure a tenancy, and to reduce the harm from substance use and access treatment. We also work with former substance users who need help to live independently after treatment and avoid relapse.

How is the service run?

We provide an outreach support service, regularly visiting clients in their own accommodation by appointment, and where appropriate accompanying them to access other services. Appointments can be arranged at alternative sites if preferred.

What services are provided?

Assessment of needs. Regular key-work to provide: Housing related support – budgeting, debt management, form filling, benefit claims. Advice on harm reduction, treatment options and relapse prevention. Goal setting and motivational support. Advocacy. Support to access education, training and careers opportunities. Support for parents to safeguard children and promote their welfare. Onward referrals.

Are there any rules?

Service users and workers are expected to treat each other with respect. Violent or abusive behaviour is not acceptable. If service users are intoxicated and not able to communicate effectively the worker may decide to cut short the session.

What are the opening hours?

Our office (based in Ranmoor) is open 9.30 – 5.00 Monday to Friday. Visits to clients are normally within these hours, but in some circumstances clients may be seen during the evenings.

How do I access the service?

Contact Sheffield Community Services 0114 263 2010 to make a telephone referral or to ask for a Floating Support referral form or further information about the service. We accept referrals from all housing, health and social care agencies, and from individuals who wish to refer themselves.
