Adults and children come to our Sheffield Family Service; families leave.

Addressing the impact of parental substance misuse

Parental problematic drug use can and does cause serious harm to children across all ages and effective treatment of the parent can have major benefits for the child.

Responding to the hidden harms caused by drug and alcohol use within families, our specialist Family Service offers a stable and supportive environment providing treatment interventions that enable families to become drug free and remain together.

This is the best outcome for the child and in many cases the most cost effective approach for child protection services.

We reunite and keep families together

Our Family Service in Sheffield provides an intensive rehabilitation programme for single mothers and fathers, couples, and pregnant women.

Our programme helps to promote change by encouraging self-worth and personal responsibility, challenging individual attitudes and behaviour, and encouraging the development of life and social skills.

We use Cognitive Behavioural interventions, Motivational Interviewing and elements of the Therapeutic Community method, augmented by parenting, family focused interventions and life skills.

We provide the opportunity for parents to remain the primary providers of care for their children, whilst receiving appropriate guidance and support. Our monitoring systems ensure that parent’s acquire the insight and nurturing skills required to care adequately for their children. The family work together, rebuilding relationships between individual members and the family as a whole.

Families remain together with significant and sustained improvement in circumstances, a stable lifestyle, increased awareness of and provision of children’s needs and significantly reducing risk for those children on an ‘at risk’ register.

Working in partnership

We follow a multi-agency approach, ensuring that all parents and children are registered with local health services, schools and other areas of need identified through the care planning process.

Our robust auditing system ensures our services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner resulting in the best possible outcomes for our service users. We operate within child protection guidelines and all other relevant legislation.

Our qualified and experienced staff teams offers 24 hour support, seven days a week. All relevant criminal record, Local Authority and Department of Health checks are undertaken on staff engaged in client care.
