Phoenix Futures Progress2Work

Progress2Work is a UK wide initiative, aiming to help people with a history of drug misuse who have problems finding work, back into employment.

Many people's lives have been devastated by drugs and alcohol, and, having overcome their dependency, they find themselves missing vital education and training. Progress2Work forms an individual action plan for each client including, where necessary, further education and training to help them back into the work place.

Building a client's commitment and motivation to return to work or training is vital. It is as important as tackling barriers such as housing, homelessness, debt, health issues, lack of training or education, work history and criminal record. Progress2Work staff work with clients to understand their lives, employment needs and also work with employers to address the stigma of employing someone with former substance misuse problems.

Recently Phoenix Futures' Lothian and Borders Progress2Work service celebrated placing it's 200th person in paid employment, a record for the scheme, with a visit from Michael Moore MP and Jeremy Purvis MSP. The visitors met with two former service users, Chris, who now drives a fork lift truck and Gareth, who is a self employed bagpipe player.

Phoenix Futures runs Progress2Work schemes in Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders, Fife, Forth Valley and Renfrewshire.
