Based with HMP Pentonville, Phoenix Futures’ Building Futures programme is designed to provide innovative and effective psychosocial interventions for substance misusing clients in a custodial setting. The programme is an integrated Substance Misuse Service working alongside Healthcare. Our provision responds to all potential client needs, building to the appropriate intensity to be delivered at the right time.
Volunteer Administrator
We are looking for a Volunteer Administrator to perform a variety of tasks to help with the smooth running of the service. This will include assisting in the use of software packages to create documents and correspondence, arranging meetings and also creating and maintaining filing and recording systems. Applicants should be highly organised and able to work on their own initiative. They will also be able to communicate effectively with people inside and outside of the service and be aware of confidentiality issues. This is an opportunity for the successful applicant to gain some valuable skills and experience within an office setting based within a prison. Due to the time spent on the vetting process for the role applicants would need to commit for a minimum of six months and offer a minimum of one day a week, although this would ideally be more.

Volunteer Alternative Therapist
Our Interventions Team facilitate a range of Interventions across the prison which is ever expanding and offering new packages. We are now looking to expand these interventions to include a range of alternative therapies to provide our service users with space and time to relax and reflect on their recovery journey. We are looking for a group of volunteers to enhance the skills and experience of our staff so that we can offer a wider range of treatments to our service users. We welcome applicants with the relevant qualifications and experience in any therapy although therapies that can be facilitated in a group setting would be especially advantageous.

Volunteer Office Administration Assistant

Helping people overcome their dependence on drugs and alcohol is both challenging and rewarding. Our pioneering work with individuals, families and communities has made us one of the UK’s leading providers of social care services in this complex area – and with your help we aim to become even more effective in the future.
We have an excellent opportunity to offer a volunteer, to help you gain experience in general office administration work in a professional office environment, working 2-4 days per week, for a period of at least 3 months or more.
You will be given the opportunity to develop transferable skills in written and oral communication, administration work and a variety of IT skills. You will also develop skills in using a database and the ability to work in a professional office environment.
You will be providing general administrative support and you will receive full training and support in all the tasks that you do. Some of the tasks you will be undertaking are:
o Taking messages and following up relevant actions.
o Sending out application packs and supplying information.
o Inputting information on our database.
o Processing invoices using Excel spreadsheets and liaising with internal staff.
o Calling and emailing to chase outstanding information.
o Preparing paper personnel files.
o Ordering stationery.
o Filing, photocopying and faxing.

Volunteer Receptionist/Administrator
The Central Administration department manage our Central Office as well as dealing with the procurement and insurance arrangements for the entire Phoenix network stretching across England and Scotland. The work of the department is incredibly varied and demanding.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Volunteer Receptionist/Administrator who will be responsible for answering telephone queries, dealing with meeting room bookings, meeting and greeting guests and processing incoming and outgoing post. The varied nature of this exciting opportunity will give you the chance to enhance your skills in written and oral communication, administration work and IT skills. Where there is capacity, the candidate will also be asked to assist in all manner of other departmental activities. This challenging position would suit a confident and person who can use their initiative and experience of working office environment to manage reception alone. No previous reception experience is required though as you will receive full training.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Hampshire Residential Service
Phoenix Futures Hampshire Residential Service consists of a large Victorian house and a number of other purpose built facilities such as our dedicated Welcome House, Art Room and Family Centre all situated in seven acres of spacious grounds on the edge of the village of Droxford in rural South Hampshire, nine miles from the nearest town.
We can accommodate up to 30 residents in the Main House and within this capacity there are designated rooms for female residents. The ‘cottage’ located next to our Welcome House, accommodates a further five residents at the resettlement stage of their programme
Key Features of our Service
The landscaped grounds provide grass and wooded areas, a pond, herb garden, barbeque area, memorial garden, football pitch and volleyball/badminton court. Our specifically built Arts Centre is used to facilitate various arts and crafts classes for our residents.
Our purpose built Family Centre provides a comfortable environment for residents to have onsite visits with family and children during their stay and also for contact visits with children where Social Services are involved. The Family Centre has facilities including kitchen, baby changing and toilet facilities, toys and games, a large television and a laptop computer with a webcam for Skype contact.
Although the programme is demanding there are opportunity for leisure and relaxation built in to the programme. Our various on-site leisure activities include a pool table, library area, table tennis, board games, Singstar/Karaoke, Nintendo Wii and Playstation. There is also TV, DVD and stereo equipment available within the Lounge Room.
Our location in the picturesque Meon Valley also offers residents miles of countryside for local walks. Our own minibus enables off-site leisure activities to take place, including swimming, paintballing, cinema trips, ten-pin bowling, country walks, camping trips, shopping trips, beach trips, which are planned in response to local service user consultation.
External Activities and Life Skills Worker
We are looking for an External Activities and life skills worker on a volunteer basis. They will provide a vital and rewarding role that will enable our service users to access treatment and detoxification in the Hampshire area. You will not only be involved with driving service users but also assisting in the coordination of their treatment, this will involve keeping accurate records and liaising with staff to help process admissions. You will also help to deliver parts of the recovery through nature programme which uses conservation as a therapy technique. You will gain first-hand experience of working with service users and being an active part of their recovery with Phoenix Futures. Volunteer Gardener
Hampshire Residential Service has beautiful gardens which have the potential to be developed by the introduction of a vegetable patch for service users to learn and participate in the development of this project. We are looking for a volunteer with gardening skills to enhance the garden area and grounds. Volunteer Catering Assistant
Do you love food and cooking? Why not volunteer with us to share your passion with our service users? We are looking for a group of volunteers to assist us in planning and preparing food within our Hampshire Residential service. In addition to this, we would welcome applications from people who have a specialist skill, e.g. bread making, cake decorating, or who are proficient in cooking a particular cuisine, e.g. Italian, Indian food and would be willing to develop workshops for our service users.
