Community Health Champions Volunteers

Birmingham CHC Service

Reasonable Travel Expenses Paid

We have been given an exciting opportunity to deliver a pilot service offering brief advice and referral to those enjoying the nightlife of Birmingham. We are now looking for Volunteer Community Health Champions to help deliver this innovative service. If you are interested in health issues which affect your local community, but with a particular emphasis on drugs, alcohol and sexual health, this may be the role for you!

You will be given full, accredited training, which will be updated throughout, as well as your travel expenses covered. You should have some knowledge of these issues and be willing to be trained throughout. Applicants should be able to offer their time regularly for this ‘out of hours’ project, and have a keen desire to develop in this kind of work. You should be able to communicate clearly and effectively, and work within a tight team environment, adhering to all Health and Safety requirements of the role.

Volunteer Driver/ Conservation Therapy Worker

Birmingham Community Rehabilitation Service is looking for a volunteer driver who is committed to conservation work, to make a real and practical difference in the recovery of our service users. We require a person who is willing to commit to driving a 16 seat minibus to Saltwells Nature Reserve every Tuesday so our service users can engage in our Conservation Therapy Programme. A love of nature and a willingness to get involved in conservation activities at the reserve regardless of the weather is essential. Knowledge of the John Muir Award would be helpful. You will need to have a full clean UK drivers licence with a D1 category and be preferably MIDAS trained to be eligible.

Volunteer Creative Group Workers

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have creative skills such as art therapy, music technology, fashion & design, creative writing or drama skills and can offer time to support service users at Birmingham Community Rehabilitation Service to experience new and exciting activities. This will support the service users in recovery to discover or rekindle positive and productive hobbies. We are looking for people with a love for their art and can inspire, lead and motivate others to participate.

Volunteer Group Work Assistants

We help people to rebuild their lives by giving them the tools they need and one of the best tools we can give someone education. We do numeracy and literacy skills on Friday mornings. We also deliver National Open College Network accredited group work throughout the week that could enable our service users to achieve a level 2 qualification in Core Personal Development Skills and Employability Skills. By giving people the opportunity to improve these skills, we can support them in gaining more control over their lives and their future. We need to recruit volunteers who can support our numeracy and literacy skills tutor and group facilitators deliver these sessions. Applicants with a relevant qualification and experience in assisting in delivering similar sessions to adults are desirable but not essential.

Volunteer Physical Activity Assistant

Do you have a passion for exercise, sport and generally keeping fit and healthy? Our service users are rebuilding their lives, and in many cases, this also involves rebuilding their bodies. We require volunteers who can help us to devise an exciting, fresh and inspiring physical activity programme in our Birmingham Community Rehabilitation Service. We are looking for people who can lead and motivate our service users through different activities, events and competitions that help them to get fit, and stay fit.

Volunteer Administrator

We are looking for a Volunteer Administrator to perform a variety of tasks to help with the smooth running of the service. This will include assisting in the use of software packages to create documents and correspondence, arranging meetings and also creating and maintaining filing systems. Applicants should be highly organised and able to work on their own initiative. They will also be able to communicate effectively with people inside and outside of the service and be aware of confidentiality issues. This is an opportunity for the successful applicant to gain some valuable skills and experience within an office setting.
