Criminal Justice Support Service

Heathrow IRC

Location: West Drayton

At Heathrow Immigration Removal Centre, we provide psychosocial interventions for substance misuse. We work alongside the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) who are the main healthcare providers.

Services Offered/Interventions:

As the Recovery and Wellbeing team, we work according to the Health and Wellbeing model which means providing low level mental health support to detainees. This is delivered through Wellbeing Workshops, which are groups co-facilitated by Phoenix Futures and the Psychology team based around using mindfulness as a coping strategy to stress, low mood and difficulty sleeping. This group is run in English and Hindi.

Our work includes an assessment, risk assessment and care plan. We offer regular one to one sessions, work packs, substance misuse groups, mindfulness groups and NA meetings.

How to Refer:

Our referrals usually come through healthcare appointments e.g. from the nurses, GP or mental health nurses. We also get referrals from the Security team after they notice detainees under the influence or suspect detainees of using substances in the Centre.

Who we help

Adults who are being detained in the IRC by the Home Office due to their immigration status.

Our Partners

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. We also work closely with Mitie Care & Custody who run the Centre and the Home Office team based at the IRC.
