Reins to Recovery

Reins to Recovery is a ten week equine therapy programme run in Barnsley. Over the ten weeks participants, who are in the early stages of recovery, carry out a variety of tasks with horses. These tasks are specifically designed to help boost participants’ self-esteem, communication skills and build confidence.

Working with horses is a challenge in itself. Participants are not only responsible for their own actions and care, but also that of the horse. This helps develop:

  • communication skills
  • leadership skills
  • teamwork skills

The programme is specifically designed to provide a number of benefits to participants. These include:

  • increased confidence
  • increased well-being
  • decreased anxiety
  • reduced likelihood of relapse
  • motivate participants to further their recovery
