Becoming a Peer Mentor?

Phoenix Futures Services in Essex recruit, train and develop peer mentor volunteers to support and engage the people who use our services, with a holistic and trauma informed approach. Peer mentors work within our services helping to facilitate groups, engage clients and deliver services. We seek guidance and knowledge from our peer mentors to co-design and co-produce the service delivery across Essex. .

Who Can Become a Peer Mentor?

Anyone who has lived experience (directly or through someone they are close to) of one of the issues Phoenix supports with. This includes drug and alcohol use, mental health issues, housing and homelessness, criminal justice involvement. We require that peer mentors are 3 months in recovery from any alcohol or substance dependency. People on probation may apply, but there must be no pending court cases or arrests within the last month.

Applicants to become a peer mentor with Phoenix Futures need to complete a 6-day training course spread out over a 2-week period. This is so we can provide you with the skills and knowledge to best support the people using our services.

Peer mentor

Once you have become a peer mentor, you will have access to the full package of Phoenix Futures online training courses and be offered in-person training and development opportunities. All peer mentors are supervised by a member of staff every six weeks to check on their development and well-being.
