Every year in September, the Phoenix Futures group comes together with the recovery community to celebrate Recovery Month. Recovery Month is an opportunity to increase awareness and understanding of substance misuse issues and more importantly to celebrate all of the people in recovery. Across the Phoenix Futures Group we will be running and getting involved with a series of events right across the country:
Recovery Street Film Festival:
For the second year running we are organising the Recovery Street Film Festival in partnership with Addaction, Action on Addiction, Blenheim, Turning Point and Drink and Drug News. The festival showcases inspiring films made by people affected by addiction with the theme ‘My Story’. We will be taking these films to the streets across England and Scotland to break down barriers and reduce stigma surrounding drug and alcohol problems by showing the public three-minute films of personal accounts of addiction and how their lives have changed.
The six pop-up festivals will be launched in Durham on 12th September at the Recovery Walk at the Sands. The Recovery Walk is a great day out that breaks down stigmas and bring the recovery communities together. Following this we will be taking the festival to Newcastle on 15th September, Manchester on 17th September, Glasgow on 19th September, London on 22nd September and finally Sheffield on 26th September.

Recovery Culture – Glasgow and Lanarkshire
Up in Scotland we have launched Recovery Culture, which is uniting people in recovery through events and activities that will run throughout the year. Activities include theatre projects, Recovery Run and a gardening project. During Recovery Month there will be a service user led stall at the Recovery Walk in Glasgow which will have smoothie bikes for service users to create drinks and information being given out about future projects and Phoenix Scotland services.
Finally we know our services will be taking part in and organising their own local events throughout the month so keep an eye out on our Facebook and Twitter for updates.
Here’s to another good Recovery Month!
