Phoenix Futures Scottish Residential Service win ‘Recovery Icon’

Phoenix Futures’ Scottish Residential Service took home the coveted Recovery Icon award from this year’s New Year Honours.

The annual awards event is a chance to recognise the hard work and dedication of all the Phoenix Futures staff, volunteers and partners across the UK.

The sought after award is Chief Executive Karen Biggs’ Recovery Icon which was presented to Phoenix Futures Scotland Scottish Residential Service who, after 24 years at its previous location in Glasgow, faced the massive challenge in 2018 of moving to a new home in the city.

Moving its therapeutic community in Scotland was Phoenix Futures’ biggest challenge last year. From the upheaval that such a transition involves to engaging with a new neighbourhood, the team in Scotland were recognised for managing this move with such commitment, dedication and efficiency.

Finding a new home was necessary for the Scottish Residential Service to meet the changing needs of people who need access to its residential treatment. Since moving to the new facility last August, the team in Scotland has been able to provide better facilities for people with more complex physical health needs including those with physical disabilities.

The Recovery Icon award is a tribute to everyone involved in the Scottish residential therapeutic community and recognises the hard work of the team in liaising regularly with the local neighbourhood and improving understanding of the service Phoenix Futures provides.

Karen Biggs, Chief Executive of Phoenix Futures, said: “A massive congratulations to the Phoenix Futures Scotland Residential Service for such a fantastic achievement last year.

”I never doubt that people who use our services deserve the very best we can offer them – that applies to what services are available, how they are delivered and the environment they are delivered in.

“The team in Scotland showed great strength and determination throughout an extremely challenging period for everyone involved and I am really pleased to say this has been one of the easiest ‘Recovery Icon’ decisions I have made.

“This award acknowledges all the staff, residents, graduates and volunteers of the Scottish Residential service who have worked so hard together to change attitudes and have done it in a truly positive and inspirational manner.”
